The Coincidences are Crazy

On Friday, I took a half day off from work to take Dan and the dogs to my parents house for our reception tasting!  We were so pleased.  We tried 5 of the 6 options we had to choose from.  We're going to be able to offer three options to our guests and we want to offer a fish, chicken and steak dish.  At the tasting, we tried the two chicken dishes, salmon, crab cakes and the Filet Mignon.  Oh WOW the food is amazing!  We made a decision to offer the Hunter Chicken which is like a Chicken Cacciatore, the crab cakes (to add in our Maryland influence) and the Filet Mignon.  Yuuum!!  They also let us taste the wines they will be serving that day.  We couldn't have been happier.

Anyways, while we were at the tasting, we were talking to our catering director/wedding planner Brandee about our DJ.  She let us know that she had talked to another couple who was getting married there next weekend and they would be going to see the DJ that night.  We decided we would go, as well, because we still hadn't decided 100% on this DJ.

We showed up at the bar at 8:30, had dinner and a few beers out on the deck where the DJ was playing.  Around 9:30, the DJ is playing an awful rap-style line dance that Dan and I are suffering through.  We see a couple come in (we were sitting by the door to the deck.)  The couple stops almost in front of us, stands there for less than 10 seconds.  We hear them say, "He's not playing this song."  And they walked away.  I looked at Dan and said, "that's gotta be the other couple!"  So, I pulled a Scott Baldwin, got up and went and chatted up the other couple for a few minutes.  They were very nice, so we invited them to sit with us.

We started talking about our lives and our weddings.  In a half hour, this is what we learned:

  • We are both getting married at The Members Club
  • We are both being married by the same officiant
  • We are using the same cake designer and DJ
  • We are both going on a cruise for our honeymoons.
Now the really weird stuff:
  • They live in Raleigh, around the corner from our old neighborhood.
  • They both also moved to Raleigh from Maryland.
  • He went to the same college Dan and I went to.
  • He grew up in the same town in Ohio where I was born.
The coincidences stopped when we started talking sports, though.  :)  Unfortunately he is a Phillies/Flyers/Steelers fan - boooooooooooooo and she is a Redskins fan.  The latter I can handle.

It was so nice to meet some other folks who live near us.  We're going to meet up with them again once they are back from their honeymoon.  Very fun!
